Effective leaders…
1. Ask what needs to be done, and what is right for the enterprise. They develop action plans stating intentions. Every success and failure creates new opportunities, hence these action plans should allow for flexibility.
2. Take responsibility for decisions, communication, and focus on opportunities. Change is an opportunity, not a threat.
3. Run productive meetings and say “we”. Executives know that any given meeting is either productive or a waste of time, to prepare they decide in advance what kind of meeting it will be. For example, to prepare a statement, make an announcement, review a report, allow participants to be in the executive’s presence, etc. Similar to communicating with a purpose.
Effectiveness is a discipline, it can be learned and must be earned.
